Trapeze Style

Did you know....
Christian Dior first introduced the A-line style dress in the 1950s, known as the trapeze dress. The style was a triangular, swingy dress that was originally designed to be worn with flats and the big hairdos of that era. The 1960s morphed the trapeze style into shorter tent dress and babydoll styles. The term "baby doll" dress was first established in the 1950s from the empire waisted styles that the teenagers wore to look "childlike" and supposedly less like their mothers.

Of course we all know this is the hottest look currently and it will probably continue well into Fall so keep your eye on this trend.

The All Day Dress

How do you dress simply when you are on the go from sun up to sun down during the Summer? With many weekends spent on the beach, shopping, then out for the night, it can be difficult to choose the right dress to carry you through the day. The solution? Choose one dress and switch out your accessories and shoes.

Our red layered v-neck dress or halter maxi dress are two great options. Beach and shopping ready with a pair of flip-flops or sandals. For evening, throw on some metallic higher heeled sandals or wedges, a great necklace plus a swingy jacket (for cooler nights) and you're good to go.

Bright Idea - Handbags

I came across some super chic and reasonably affordable handbags online. This summer, every gal deserves to have a few colorful handbags in her closet. Besides, with Independence Day right around the corner, it's a great time to splurge.

The red bell shaped bag from Francesca's Collections is sophisticated yet fun and a great find for the price at $42 . Or try the bright yellow boa bag - too cute at $48.

Also, check out www.handbagheaven.com - they sell a lot of look alike and knock-off bags, but none of them have a fake logo so they do not infringe on copyright laws - very cool. The teal blue Dave Jones knock-off is bright and cheery for $29.95.

Perfect Swimsuit - Take Two

After a few of our friends read the recent post on the "perfect" swimsuit, they urged me to find a few options for the hip, younger crowd. I think that was the day I was pre-PMS, totally bloated and feeling my age. I was ready to throw in the bikini and disguise my distended middle with a cool one-piece. Nothing wrong with that and I am sorry to have left out all of you super chic and young gals who are looking for great suits.
So, here is my second take on the perfect swimsuit.

Oh, do I need to mention the monokini first? It's a hot look this season, but you really need a killer bod to pull it off. If you REALLY are dead set on wearing one, opt for a little more coverage around the hip area and a style that has a deeper v-cut. I like the bamboo ring cutout one piece by Victoria's secret (shown in white).

You can't go wrong with a classic triangle bikini like this black one, again from Victoria's Secret (on sale now 2 for $24). For that matter, I would end my shopping at their store - they have just about every sexy and affordable swimsuit available.

If you want to "girly" up your biker wardrobe and are unsure where to look, check out http://www.terrybicycles.com/. Catering to women only, the site is filled with great gear for you and your bike. They have a super cute selection of jerseys, t-shirts, skorts, socks - just about anything you could want or need.

I am especially fond of the "Ride Like A Girl" jersey, tee and socks. And, they have a ton of chic designs if you want to stand out from the crowd. Also noteworthy is http://www.teamestrogen.com/ - they carry an awesome line of jerseys in every print imaginable with sizes ranging from XSmall to XXLarge.

The Perfect Swimsuit

If you are avoiding looking for that perfect swimsuit, join the club. It is one of my least favorite summer activities. Why does it seem that I need a new swimsuit EVERY year? I hope this will be the last year I find myself in this situation. I am shopping online for a suit and I found the perfect place: www.Athleta.com.

I urge you to check it out. They are women designing for women and carry an eclectic line of clothing, shoes and swimsuits. In fact, their summer catalog has some really awesome finds and they have an online outlet shop

Try a classic halter in black or the hibiscus print or pair a tankini or bikini top with a variety of bottoms. One of my faves if you need to cover the hip area a bit is the scroll bottom - it has ruching on either side so you can wear it up or down for more coverage. Their swim skirt and dresses are cute too.
